WHO WE ARE
Based in New York City, Nodutdol is a community of first through fourth generation Koreans living in the U.S. We are a community that has families in both, the south and north of Korea. We are diverse in our backgrounds and perspectives, but bound together by our shared sense of the Korean homeland that continues to suffer under division [with the understanding that the concept of ‘home’ may vary]. We are part of the Korean diaspora spread throughout the globe made up of artists, filmmakers, teachers, students, workers, professionals, young families, etc. who believe in social justice.

HISTORY
In April 1999, Nodutdol was founded in New York City. Inspired by the democratic social movements in Korea, there was a desire to create a progressive space in NYC that promotes the self-determination and unity of the Korean people through grassroots organizing and community development. With a critical analysis of the U.S. – Korea history [that is closely linked to war and militarism], Nodutdol began putting together workshops, lectures, and study sessions, believing in the importance of educating present and future generations of Koreans living in the U.S. to be actively engaged in social change.

MISSION STATEMENT
Through grassroots organizing and community development, Nodutdol seeks to bridge divisions created by war, nation, gender, sexual orientation, language, class, and generation among Koreans and to empower our community to address the injustices we and other people of color face here and abroad. Nodutdol works in collaboration with other progressive organizations locally, nationally and internationally as part of a larger movement for peace and social change.

Nodutdol seeks to contribute to a global people’s struggle against war and militarism as part of a Korean struggle for national unification and democracy, and as part of a U.S.-based peoples’ struggle for racial, social and economic justice in New York City. In that spirit, we are building a broad base of NYC Koreans who struggle against war and militarism on these two fronts.

ABOUT THE BENEFICIARY
In the face of widespread discrimination, nearly 20% of Amerasian children in Korea drop out of school during junior high, while 10% drop out during elementary school. Over 40% will go on to meet discrimination in the workplace. (2004 data) Amerasian Christian Academy was established in 1999 to meet the educational needs of single parent mixed ethnicity children in the city of Dongducheon. Using English as the main mode of teaching and communication, ACA’s aim is to provide an environment where mixed ethnicity students are all welcome and can study without discrimination. At ACA, students build bilingual, leadership, and creative skills through diverse educational programs starting from kindergarten through high school.

DIRECTIONS
Directions: To get to the Nanji Camping Ground, go to World Cup Stadium Station on Line 6 and take Exit 1. The park is approximately 1.3 km away from the station, so you can either enjoy a scenic walk through World Cup Park or hop in a cab.

If you choose to walk, the campground is very easy to find if you keep two basic directions in mind: Exiting the subway station, (1) head directly south until you hit the Han River, then (2) turn right and walk until you hit the campground (located just after a bike rental kiosk).

As always, we have a great line-up for you including the return of our former resident DJ from 2006, accomplice! If you like dancehall (some call it reggae), then be sure to come early!!

And this will also be DJ I.N.gram’s last show for a while, so don’t miss it!

FEATURING

accomplice dancehall surprise
DJ Silent garage hip-hop
DJ LadyBird deepdubbydisco
DJ I.N.gram hip-hop funk

Check out the amazing deep dubbylicious DJ LadyBird @ myspace.com/ladybsboutique &
www.seoulsounds.com > community music project

Proceeds will be donated towards long-term recovery efforts in the Taean/Mallipo area after December’s oil spill on the west coast. 113,000 tonnes of crude oil were spilled, and while over a million volunteers have helped with the clean-up, the local economy and environment remain devastated and need our help.
